Dirleton Castle, home of the invited De Vaux Norman family in the 12th Century by David I, after the Haliburtons then the Ruthvens who are associated with the ‘Gowrie conspiracy’ which is a fascinating botched assassination/ kidnapping attempt of young James VI – still events are not fully unknown.. Fantastic castle and gardens to visit and explore in East Lothian near Edinburgh.
West Coast Argyll, Mull Memories and Iconic Iona with four seasons in one hour let alone one day! Weather system was spiralling just West of Iona throwing wind, snow and sunshine at us. Fab!
St.Andrews and Glamis day trip. Take in the Castle where a martyr was burned alive, a cardinal was hung from a window – as a consequence. Followed by the Old Course getting ready for The Open in July already, Chariots of Fire beach and Glamis Castle – home of the Lyon family and childhood home of the late Queen Mother.
No water shortage in Glen Coe last week despite our great weather. This waterfall feeds into the River Coe which flows out to Loch Leven. Snow melt and bursts of heavy rain gives Glen Coe an apt name of the ‘weeping Glen’ despite what happened in 1692!
